Kitchener Wants More
|
Description
The same familiar likeness of Field Marshall Kitchener is seen in this British enlistment aid calling for more soldiers to fill its desperate military ranks. War was a deadly maiden, and defending one's country meant suffering casualties that highlighted the need for more men. The "rubber stamp" portrait of the British officer would become a parody in later years, much like the image of Uncle Sam pervades advertising and satire in United States literature.
