Description
Joseph Stalin implemented a series of Five Year Plans designed to increase production of industry and agriculture beginning in 1928. These ambitious economic plans covered all aspects of Soviet culture, including agriculture, industry, power, transportation, welfare, and public health. The goals of the plans were unrealistic, and party officials soon took to the practice of deliberately lying about results in an effort to make the Plans seem more successful than they were. The thirteenth and last plan was never completed, since the Soviet Union was officially dissolved in 1991.
