Description
This poster honors the efforts of the Russian Navy in sinking Nazi ships during the second World War, in particular the sinking of the MV Wilhellm Gustloff, which resulted in the largest loss of life of any maritime disaster in history. This star member of the German fleet was attempting to escape the advance of Russian forces in east Prussia. At the time it sank, the Gustloff was carrying over 10,000 passengers, mostly German soldiers, civilians, and crew members, and it is believed that over 90 percent of those people perished as a result of direct torpedo hits that doomed the ship in just 45 minutes.
