China's Puppet Economy

Style: Political Propoganda Artist: China

Description
When Chinese and Japanese forces clashed during the Sino-Japanese Wars, opportunistic radicals set up puppet banks to fund Peking business interests, reaching out to assume control of silver reserves held by foreign interests in China. This political poster shows how Chinese citizens were affected when these banks attempted to make the established currency non-negotiable. The propaganda message was intended to set a firm date of March 10, 1939 as the deadline for exchanging money into the new currency.
