Hip-Hop Godfather
|
Description
As a young man growing up in the Bronx, Kevin Donovan struggled between a life of urban street gangs and the influence of his activist mother, who instilled in him a love of music and a respect for his heritage. Donovan's life changed when he won an essay contest. The prize was a trip to Africa, where he witnessed the inherent culture of the Zulu nation. Upon his return, he would become Afrika Bambaataa, the godfather of hip-hop, spreading a message of peace in an area where once he was warlord of the largest street gang in the city, the Black Spades.
