Abstract & Pop Art Canvas Art
Abstract & Pop Art Canvas Art
Abstract art and pop art are unconventional forms, so it’s no surprise that these pieces would find a home on ArtFlux, which is inherently informal.
A pop art canvas combines commercial themes with bright colors, reflective of the illustrative styles one might see in a Roy Lichtenstein or a Keith Haring composition. They have notoriety, often including famous celebrities or advertising themes. They are also certainly contemporary, showing the cultural values and changing tastes of moment in time.
Abstract canvas art concentrates on line, form, and color to carry the weight of the entire piece, with the inclusion of realistic figures and structure being a matter of complete coincidence. Artists like Kandinsky and Mondrian made themselves known by tapping into the raw energy such parameters offered the creative mind, and their unconventional pieces found favour by remaining true to a certain disregard for form and function.
Together, these two styles generate mass appeal by being familiar, bearing recognizable elements that create continuing interest and support. A pop art canvas might feature Muhammad Ali or Elvis Presley, Snoop Dogg or Ice-T, John F. Kennedy or Clint Eastwood, but the appeal of the individual pieces lies in how the artists interpret those cultural icons. Abstract canvas art might create new shapes, blended with patterns and images used to communicate a particular idea.
Add the influence of street art to this creative base and you begin to see all the exciting possibilities for interesting posters and prints. Smasha’s Working Class Russia and Proletariat are two examples that demonstrate how an artist might convey a sense of political history while adding stylistic elements to make an interesting pop art canvas piece. Likewise, a piece like Happiness could be considered abstract canvas art even though there is a recognizable person in the frame.
These terms are open to interpretation, but the notion of “art for art’s sake” is important enough for us to include abstract and popular images in our collection of quality prints and canvas art. We hope that many of our fans will appreciate these works as part of a comprehensive art gallery that gives audiences access to a wide variety of attractive pieces for their personal collections.
